Art Dump

Some things I've finished in the last few months that I haven't gotten around to posting.

This oracle, which could probably afford to be a bit more polished, but it's too late now.

My OC, Amira.

A quick self portrait I did when I was in a particularly bad mood, which seems to be the only time I ever feel like doing self portraits.

Obligatory Sailor Moon fanart to honor the debut of the new series. It's kind of a remake of the cover of the first manga (of the series that was republished in 2003). I plan on doing the covers of all 12 books, and am currently working on the second one, featuring Sailor Mercury.

This one was a birthday gift for my coworker, who asked for a mint and coral fairy.

This description is copied from my deviantART post, cause I'm too lazy to rewrite all of it:

Sometime during high school, I started writing and illustrating my own little sort of mythology. Maya was the mother goddess, and all of the universe was born from her womb, and there were many gods, goddesses, and spirits having to do with different parts of our world. Digging through some of my old sketches, I stumbled upon this particular sketch, and a short story type thing that went along with it.

"The sun and the moon were once lovers. When the Earth was created, they spent every waking moment together, and wherever they went, they were surrounded by the most brilliant light. Life bloomed all around them, and the animals adored them.

But there was inequity. On any stretch of land that the sun and moon didn't occupy, the animals would do nothing but sleep, and the plants received no light. Soon, all of Maya's creations began to die, save for those touched by the couple's light.

Maya had no choice but to separate the two. She ordered that they each walk all the way around the Earth, on opposite sides, so that every part of the world would receive equal amounts of sunlight and moonlight, and no place above ground should ever remain in darkness.

Now the lovers may be together for only a few minutes at dawn and dusk, and for a while more every 18 years, during a time that we now know as a solar eclipse."

I did this piece a little while ago during kind of a rough patch. It's extremely personal and symbolic of what I've been dealing with in the past year. At first it was just kind of a rough thing I did to just get my feelings down and out of my system. I never planned on finishing it or cleaning it up, but a friend of mine ended up pushing me to finish it. The finished version is the one I ended up posting on deviantART. The ducks and the stuffed rabbit were just a little too personal, and wouldn't have read quite right to viewers.

And finally, just a very quick sort of fashion sketch.

Now I know I don't always remember to post my work here. If anyone would like more frequent updates on my work, your best bet is to follow me on my deviantART. Anything I finish gets posted there almost immediately, though my more in depth explanations of some pieces go here, as well as any sketches or unfinished work. I don't paint very consistently, so it's hard to really post here very often, and I'm sorry about that.

Not sure how long it's been...

Sorry for my long absence recently. I've had a lot going on in my life since my last post, not all of it good, and I haven't been painting much in the last few months. I forgot for a while how much better painting made me feel, and I'm glad I'm doing it again.

I have actually finished a lot of things since my last post here. Most of them were done before September, and I never got around to sharing them with you.

First, a couple more portraits from Razia's Shadow. I don't know if you can tell how obsessed I am at this point. :P
Princess Anhura

And Nidria

These were painted after I discovered a new oil brush that I had been experimenting with. The next sort of sketchy thing was the first thing I painted when I was playing around with the brush for the first time. I also did this as sort of a skin tone study.

In this one I was figuring out how the brush worked with RGB level adjustments.

And finally, once I realized the brush worked best when combined with my usual brushes, I painted this girly pink thing.

I wasn't happy with the last version of the redheaded selkie girl, so I did another one.

A concept for futuristic weapons. They materialize and are powered by the bracelets. Don't ask me how they actually work. I didn't think too far into it, but I thought it would look cool. It was also good practice for glowy things.

This is an idea I had FOREVER ago that I never actually worked on but just kind of sketched out. After a disaster on the Earth's surface, people started living underground and managed a way to grow fruit from the remains of the roots of broken tree stumps.

A sketch that I did during class pretty recently that I thought I'd share.

And FINALLY the two paintings that I got done today that reminded me how much better I feel when I'm painting. <3

I hope you all have been well since I've been gone, and that you've had a good New Year's and whatever other winter holiday you happen to celebrate. My resolution this year should definitely be to post on this blog more often. xD

Here's another quick Celine portrait. Playing with a slightly different style here, which I think I really like.
I'm not sure how I feel about the boarder color, really. I tried to make it so it would match deviantART's background color, but deviantART has a tendency to alter colors slightly when you upload, so that didn't really work out. :/

This one was sort of a speed painting. 45 minutes using photo reference. It definitely worked out a lot better than my last landscape did. I don't have much practice painting clouds, and these ones are pretty simple since they're backlit, but they were a lot of fun to do.

I also decided to use the landscape (waterscape?) as a background for a redheaded selkie with a blind eye. I'm not entirely happy with how her face turned out, though, so I'll probably fix it and reupload pretty soon.

So I've been obsessing over 30 Seconds To Mars lately, especially since their newest album is coming out. And of course that gives me a good reason to do that black and white celeb portrait that I've been putting off. It was actually kind of therapeutic in a way, since there really wasn't much actual thought involved, so I think I might do these a little more often. Here's a quick painting of Jared Leto.

Overall, this was a lot of fun to paint. :)

I'm trying to start practicing with landscapes. This one's just a super quick little fart that I might work on detailing a bit when I get bored.

The next three images are unfinished stuff.

A second attempt at a portrait of Princess Anhura from Razia's Shadow: A Musical. I'm kinda trying to teach myself how to paint folds, so bear with me here. Also, I know I paid shit attention to proportions when I was doing the sketch, so just pretend she's not a giant. XD

This one's kinda old, and I really liked the idea and I liked the sketch a lot, but I kinda got stuck with this one, so I doubt it'll ever really be finished.

This is one I actually forgot I had started, so hopefully I'll get around to finishing it soon enough.

I'm calling this one a work in progress simply cause there are things about it that keep bothering me. I don't want to give up on it, though, so I'll probably just end up reworking it to death. This is an earlier portrait of Celine from my last post.

Also I'm going to stop trying to title my blog posts because fuck that.

A Few Things

It's actually been so long since I've posted that I almost forgot how to do it. XD

Anyway, here's a few things that I've done fairly recently.

A requested portrait of a fairly new character of mine for a banner that I literally just farted out through my pen today in a couple of hours.

And another portrait that's sort of a tribute to Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Neptune) because I fucking love her hair. And also because it gave me an excuse to paint glowy baby jellyfish. <3

I also have a WIP or two, but I'm too lazy at the moment to convert them to JPEGs for you. :p

Some more WIPs

Here's a few things I've been doing, so you know I haven't died or anything.

What little more I did of the lost candle thing before I got bored of it and quit.

Lineart for a commission.

A girl I painted when I got sick of trying to figure out hand perspective for the above lineart and decided to distract myself from my obligations.

And a little zombie slayer girl that needs to be finished.

Fish thing compete

Just wanted to post the finished product real quick. Trying to go through all of my PSDs right now before I start anything new.
